Michael Werner (footballer)
Michael Werner (born 10 June 1969) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Essendon and the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). Werner, who was from Canberra, started his career at Manuka-Weston after playing junior football with Eastlake. He spent the 1988 season in the SANFL as a full-forward with West Torrens and kicked 38 goals to finish as their leading goal kicker. In 1988 he also represented the ACT at the Adelaide Bicentennial Carnival. Essendon then secured his services with pick nine in the 1988 VFL draft and he went on to spend the next four seasons as a key forward in the AFL. He kicked 27 goals in 1990 but missed that year's finals series where Essendon made the Grand Final. In 1991 he made just six senior appearances but notably kicked four goals in Essendon's Elimination Final loss to Melbourne. At the end of the 1992 season, Werner was traded to Sydney. Michael Werner (born 1965 in Frankenthal, Germany) is a publisher of Pennsylvania German publications and writer of Pennsylvania German articles, prose and poetry. He is the founder and publisher of the only existing Pennsylvania German newspaper, ''Hiwwe wie Driwwe''. Life Werner was raised in the Palatinate (Germany). Members of his family had emigrated from this area to the U.S. in the 19th century. He studied at the University of Mannheim and holds a Master's degree in General Linguistics, Germans Studies and Sociology. His Ph.D. Thesis is dealing with Pennsylvania German literature. Werner is working as publishing director of a B2B publishing house in Mainz (Germany). He lives in Ober-Olm. Activities In 1993, he became a student of C. In 1963, Michael Werner opened his first gallery, Werner & Katz, in Berlin, Germany with the first solo exhibition of Georg Baselitz. Galerie Michael Werner was later established in Cologne in 1969. Since then, Galerie Michael Werner has worked with several of the most important artists of the twentieth century. A branch was opened in New York City in 1990, in a house on East 77th Street formerly used by Leo Castelli, and re-designed by Annabelle Selldorf.
